OCEAN HERO CONSERVATION RUN 2019

Ocean Hero Conservation Run was successfully organized and held at Sunsuria City Celebration Centre, Sepang on 2nd March 2019. The 5KM charity fun-run themed ‘Plastic-Free Ocean’, aims to spread awareness and educate Malaysians about the serious issues of plastic pollution and its effects towards the ocean and marine life while protecting the sustainable Eco-system and Eco-Tourism. This noble effort is in conjunction with conservation partners such as Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia, MareCet, Tak Nak Straw and Sampah Menyampah and this movement is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 14 Life Below Water and endorsed by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) and Ministry of Education (MOE).

OCEAN HERO CONSERVATION RUN was graced and officiated by Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, Deputy Secretary General - Planning & Commercialization, Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), The Guest of Honor and Patron, Y.M. Tengku Dato’ Hishammuddin Zaizi Bin Y.A.M Tengku Azman Shah Alhaj and Mr. Stefan Priesner, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia the Ocean Hero Conservation Run Ambassadors, accompanied by Alex Yoong (former F1 driver) and Ning Baizura (singer) followed by Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap, Chairman of Sunsuria Berhad, Mr. Simon Kwan, COO of Sunsuria Berhad, Ms. Lee Swee Kheng, CFO of Sunsuria Berhad and Ms. Shirene Moong, Co-Founder of Ocean Hero Conservation Run. 


“As responsible citizens, we as Malaysians strongly believes in sustainable practices. While it is important to continue developing our cities and economy, we must remember that we cannot do this at the expense of our environment or the well-being of our future generations. Exercising and adopting environment friendly techniques has been one of the continuous efforts and heartbeat of our nation. Therefore, as a quest to continue this principle, we hope that Malaysians will see the importance of protecting the marine life in order to ensure a healthy eco-system to the environment” said Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, Deputy Secretary General - Planning & Commercialization, Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) during his opening remarks. 


BLOSSOMLY GLOBAL throughout this launch campaign and collaborated with corporate partners and NGOs aligned with the efforts of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) action and generate awareness on endangered marine mammals & its ocean environment. It aims to drive and recognize partners through CSR actions advancing towards the 17 UNSDGs and to continuously act as a socially responsible channel for sustainable businesses and creating a brand value of trustworthiness. Blossomly Global also had achieved great support from various channels ranging from prominent VVIPs, advocates and celebrities with the aim to create and spread more awareness and educate the public about the ocean conservation mission that is in-line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 14 Life Below Water.  


“We as public figures and celebrities deeply support our conservation partners such as Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia, MareCet, Tak Nak Straw and Sampah Menyampah as our beneficiaries by organizing and developing more research and support for sustainable conservation including highlighting these conservation partners to the public and to acknowledge their conservation work”, said Alex Yoong.   
The activities organized also aims to educate the participants especially corporate organizations, colleges and universities, specifically about conservation and encourages them to cultivate a passion towards the conservation mission. To date, there were more 
than 500 students that have been educated through this campaign and the numbers are increasing with endorsement and support from the Ministry of Education (MOE). “The students have cultivated a responsible sustainable lifestyle such as stop using straws, reducing the usage of single-use plastics and litter management which they hope to influence and encourage others to follow,” said Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap, Chairman of Sunsuria Berhad. On the day of the event, the Ocean Hero Conservation Run also organized mini games, kids’ activities, and arts & crafts sessions for participants to learn about the importance of conserving SDG 14 Life Below Water. The participants were also entertained with a live performance by Karmun Ooi, a KL-based Malaysian RnB singer-songwriter. 


Through this charity Conservation Run, for each participation, Blossomly Global pledged to donate RM5 to selected beneficiaries such as Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCSM), MareCet, Tak Nak Straw and Sampah Menyampah. Approximately some amount of donations had been given to the charity and token of appreciations were given to the VIPs, Ocean Hero Ambassadors, Ocean Hero Advocates & Partners and Media Representatives. 

 

Ocean Hero Conservation Run main objective is to educate the importance of conserving Marine Life and Ocean Sustainability in line of United Nations SDG 14 Life Below Water.
